Sustainable Livelihood and Skill Building
- Our sustainable livelihood and skill building aim to empower and equip educated and semi-educated youth with skills and expertise to excel and sustain themselves in the modern-day world.
India is on track to become the world’s most populated nation by 2025, thanks to rapid population growth. India has the potential to reap a “demographic dividend” from its young population, as the country’s youth join the workforce in increasing numbers each year and frequently migrate to major urban centres in search of opportunity.
- Only 52% students in India continue their education after their Grade 10
- 31% of our youth (15-29 years) are not in education, employment or training
- Merely 53% of youth completing graduation are employable.
This indicates the amount of human capital wasted, as we prepare to capitalize on our demographic dividend.
We at DSF, have very clearly experienced this reality over the years. Some of our students and most of their peers with similar background are unable to overcome these issues and faces many hurdles in getting into meaningful livelihood.
The industry today, needs much more than the mere academic and technical skills provided by the colleges. The need of the hour is upskilling and making the recipients industry ready for immediate employment, through a structured Finishing School programme. Focussed and consistent efforts can ensure inclusive growth and create employable youth and leaders, from the underserved section.
India’s job landscape is transitioning with new emerging technologies, new business models and new markets, even as unemployment continues to be a major issue. There is a pressing need for job-seekers and entrepreneurs, to leverage the current growing opportunities in business, e-commerce, science and technology to create employment, wealth and well-being for themselves and the communities.
